Comprehensive Eye examinations for all Ages

Routine eye examinations are necessary to maintain healthy eyes. In fact, serious eye or medical diseases are often first discovered in a routine eye exam. In general, the earlier a potential problem is diagnosed, the better the prognosis for treatment.

Our eye examinations are exceptionally thorough and are designed to be a comprehensive assessment of the visual system and overall eye health. In addition to determining whether you need an update in your glasses or contact lens prescription, Dr. Tsim & Dr. Lum will look for symptoms and signs of ocular disease during your examination. Parts of your eye examination will also include:

  • Eye alignment and Eye muscle testing - this will test your visual coordination and eye muscle control, including your ability to change focus.
  • Tonometry: Measures the fluid pressure in the eye and is an important test in detecting Glaucoma.
  • Internal & External Eye Health: A complete internal and external examination of your eyes for signs of possible disorders, such as:
    • Cataracts
    • Glaucoma
    • Macular Degeneration
    • Diabetes
    • Vitreous Diseases
    • Retinal Diseases
  • Miscellaneous Tests - these tests are also performed when it is deemed necessary
    • Colour vision testing (Ishihara & D-15)
    • Stereovision tests
    • Amsler Grid
    • Fluorescein stain
    • Automated visual fields testing
    • Corneal Pachymetry

Children's Eye Exams

Children require special consideration when it comes to eye exams, as regular eye exams can detect health problems and conditions such as a turned or lazy eye in the early stages.

The Ontario Association of Optometrists recommends that a child should have their first eye examination at six months of age, at three years of age and then every twelve months or as recommended by your optometrist.

Since more than 80% of learning is done through the eyes, your child’s vision is vital in developing skills such as:

  • Reading
  • Copying
  • Hand-eye coordination
  • Social skills

A screening does not replace a comprehensive eye examination, it only tries to identify at risk children and identify the basics of visual acuity. We provide an inviting and fun environment for your children.

Contact Lens Exams

Dr. Tsim & Dr. Lum have had extensive training and clinical experience with the fitting of contact lenses. As every patient has different eye sizes and curvatures, a contact lens fitting involves precise measurements to allow for the proper selection of contact lenses with the correct parameters. For example, contact lenses that are too loose on the eyes will lead to discomfort while lenses that are too tight will lead to red eyes and other complications.

We fit all types of contact lenses including:

  • Daily wear contact lenses
  • Contact lenses for dry eyes
  • Contact lenses for astigmatism
  • Bifocal/multifocal Contact lenses
  • Coloured contacts
  • Rigid Gas permeable contact lenses

We are always kept up-to-date with the latest in contact lens technology, to improve the comfort and health of your eyes. Patients with dry eye syndrome and even patients with high astigmatism power are now able to be successful contact lens wearers. If you are interested in being fit with the newest technology in contact lenses, please contact us.

Some of the contact lens brands we carry include:
